Woodworking had always been a hobby of Tom Carson and in 1977, Carson Wood Specialties was formed to provide woodworking services to the area from his modest home shop. While Carson Wood Specialties started off small, originally specializing primarily in outdoor furniture, the business quickly grew and was formally incorporated in 2008. On January 23, 2009 a fire destroyed the original shop that Carson Wood Specialties had called home for nearly 32 years.

Despite the fact that the shop had been destroyed, as well as much of the equipment, Carson Wood Specialties found a temporary shop and was open for business the very next day. It is this kind of dedication to their customers that has set Carson Wood Specialties apart from the competition. With the generous help of other local businesses and after many long nights and weekends of building, Carson Wood Specialties' new shop opened for business in October 2009, just three tenths of a mile north of their original location on Jericho Road.

After moving into their new shop, Carson Wood Specialties continued to quickly grow. In 2012, Carson Wood Specialties built a second building just for warehouse space for lumber. However, this still wasn't enough because today, Carson Wood Specialties has several outdoor racks as well. The outdoor space is mainly to house their pressure treated lumber.

Today Carson Wood Specialties' is known mainly for their custom woodworking and wood decking. Whatever the project may be, Carson Wood Specialties is committed to providing quality workmanship and customer satisfaction for customers are near as Chicago or as far away as Europe, as they did for their first customer more than 30 years ago.
